Cristiano Barbarossa, writer and director. Born in Rome in 1968, and raised between Italy and Venezuela, since 2002 he writes and directs segments for SUPERQUARK, the leading culture/science programme broadcast by Italian public tv, RAIUNO. In 2006 he made "Iraq: The Truth Denied", for RAITRE and HISTOIRE, ("Irak, un nouveau regard"), about Iraq before and after the war. He made for RAITRE: “Salute, Cuba” (2001), a documentary on the Cuban health system and the problems brought by the American embargo, “Bananas” (2000, Guatemala), on the systematic violations of human rights and the conditions of the workers in the banana fields that belong to the fruit multinationals Dole, Chiquita and Del Monte and “Gli Aquiloni” (“Kites”, 2000) shot in Colombia, about the forty-year conflict between the army, the guerrilla units and paramilitary forces. From 1991 to 1997 he worked as a production assistant and producer, in the documentary and film industry. “A Slum Symphony” (RAITRE, NHK, TV3, Nomination for the 2010 Golden Globe of the Foreign Press Association in Italy, Winner at the Roma Fiction Fest 2010, Audience Award at Castellinaria – Festival Int. del Cinema Giovane-Switzerland, Special Event at Rio de Janeiro Int. Film Fest, Special Prize at Int. Flaiano Award)is his first feature length documentary.
