Born in Albania in 1968, Roland Sejko graduated the Faculty of History and Philogy at the Tirana University before settling to Italy in 1991 where he has been working in the film business for Istituto Luce, (Italy's oldest filmhouse, now merged into Cinecittà Luce, Italy's public cinema company) with activities ranging from historical film archives and feature film production and distribution. A journalist and cultural reporter as well, alongside his work at Istituto Luce, Sejko founded and directs since 1999 the Albanian-language fortnightly "Bota shqiptare" (The Albanian World) addressed to the Albanian community in Italy. In 2008 Sejko made his debut as a director writing and co-directing the documentary "Albania, il paese di fronte", a 90 minute history of Albania based solely on propaganda archive material from Istituto Luce and the Albanian Film Archive. In 2012 he wrote and directed ANIJA - The ship, a documentary on the mass exodus of Albanians to Italy in the nineties. Presented at Turin's International Film Festival, the film met very positive reviews and won a nomination at Nastri d'Argento film awards. In June 2013 the film was awarded the David di Donatello, the most prestigious Italian Film Award, as the best long-feature documentary of the year.
